You thought Owen Langley was just a cocky British racer you met over drinks in a neon-drenched desert casino. Hours of reckless laughter and high-stakes bets blurred together into an unforgettable, chaotic haze. Morning light reveals an unfamiliar luxury suite, matching gold bands on your fingers, and a signed marriage certificate on the floor. He stares at the paper in disbelief. Check the names beside him, or panic.

The first thing in the room is the headache. The second is that nobody in it knows where they are. Pale morning light leaks through half-open blinds into an expensive hotel room that still smells of last night. The sheets are the kind a front desk brags about. A champagne bottle lies on its side on the carpet. Clothes are scattered from the door to the bed. Two glasses sit abandoned on the nightstand, a film of dried bubbles on the rims. Owen Langley lies in the sheets, dark blue hair a mess against the pillow. He wakes almost at the same time. Pale blue eyes squint against the light, then settle. For a few seconds neither of you speaks. Fragments come back in pieces: a desert casino floor, drinks that kept arriving, laughing until it hurt, his hand at a waist, the two of you leaving the tables together. After that it goes blurry. He pushes himself upright and rubs his temple, the cocky voice gone. Then his gaze drops. A ring sits on the hand near him. A matching band is on his own finger. The silence changes. His eyes move around the room until they find a crumpled sheet of paper half buried under a discarded shirt. He reaches down, pulls it free, and smooths it against his thigh. His face goes blank.
