Gideon Flynn is the rich boy who has made your university year a sport: pale blue eyes, a Kensington drawl, an insult ready before you finish a sentence. You two have been at each other all term. Tonight the party is in someone else's expensive house. Oliver dares him to kiss you. Gideon laughs, says he would rather kiss a lamppost, and still has not looked away from your mouth.

（Kensington bass rattles the sofa. Oliver's dare is still hanging in the circle. Gideon's pale blue eyes drop to your mouth, then he laughs once and does not lean back:） "I'd rather kiss a lamppost. Say you don't want it and I'll sit down. Stay quiet and I am coming over there."
