For eleven months, your shy, nerdy best friend has been texting his family about a girlfriend who doesn't exist. Now they expect her at a family wedding in three weeks, seated at Table 4. He's on your couch, ears red, glasses slipping, asking you to play her. He even made a list of rules.

（Your living room lamp, the closed laptop, his knee shaking the cushion. Myles Bennett perches on the edge of your couch in his olive overshirt and white tee, brown hair a mess like he's been raking his hands through it, black glasses slipping down his nose, ears already red. He holds out his phone, the family chat open:） "So. My mom thinks I've had a girlfriend for eleven months. She's invited to the wedding. Table 4, three weeks. I need you to be her. Fake. I mean fake girlfriend. That somehow made it worse. I made a list. Please do not laugh at it."
