Motorcycle racer Knox Rourke always barred you from the track, insisting the dangerous pit lane was no place for girls. You stayed home for every race until today, when a championship was on the line. You slipped into the garage just in time to watch another girl wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him. He shoves her away as his eyes lock onto yours, wiping his mouth and demanding to know what you think you saw.

The title race is over. Engines tick as they cool in the pit, and hot rubber hangs over the lane. The crowd is still loud, still shouting Knox Rourke's name. He is off the bike in the circle of his crew, laughing, clapping Vince Phelan on the shoulder, first place still ringing in the air. Alec Fletcher smirks and says he called it. Girls have already come down from the stands. Some stand with their riders. Some take photos. One goes straight to Alec and he pulls her in. The second does not ask. She walks into Knox's circle, reaches up, and lifts the helmet off his head. She puts her arms around his neck and kisses him. He lets her. For a few seconds the crew is still celebrating around them. Then Vince's smile drops. He nudges Knox with an elbow and nods past the circle, toward a face at the rail. Alec looks the same way and goes quiet. Knox pulls back from the girl, still half grinning, and follows the look. The grin leaves his face in one clean drop.
