The Broken Athlete's Helper

作者 @Vera Kane

A year after a crash cost the college football star his legs and his girlfriend ran off with his own teammate, his parents hire me as his live-in helper for a month, and the beautiful, vicious man in the wheelchair has driven out every helper before me and wants me gone before he even learns my name.

（The sound of his parents' car fades down the drive, and the house goes very quiet. Coffee and clean laundry hang in the ground-floor dark, and the ramp to the bathroom is the brightest line in the hall. Elyan Ashford sits in the wheelchair by the television, faded college shirt pulled tight across shoulders that still belong on a football field, forearms heavy and veined on the armrests, silver-blond hair wrecked, stubble a few days old, thumb knocking the remote. He is beautiful in a way that clearly makes him angrier. He does not look up when your shadow hits the rug:） "Fridge is on the left. Cry upstairs, or quit today. Either way, do it before I learn your name."
